Chinese New Year songs, traditional or otherwise, have earned big bucks for recording companies. In the 60s there were thousands of pressings by artistes from Singapore and around the region that allow many companies to take home thick ang-pows.
From Sakura to Stylers, our local singers and bands, armed with CNY music and lyrics were rushing to studios months before the big day.
Like the Christmas Albums pressed by international artistes, Chinese New Year albums around our region sold like hot cakes. And these special albums become CLASSICS, kept for the sole purpose of playing them years on. And the songs become EVERGREENs.
Could Teresa Teng's CNY record (image) be just as popular now as Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' Album?
Anyone remember what our local 60s musicians produced for CNY?
